Save the Date Cards

Save the Date Cards

Save the Date! We're getting married!

It is a very exciting time and you want to shout it from the rooftops, “We're getting married!!!” and sending save the date cards is a great way to announce the big day. We are constantly being asked, however, when and even if save the date cards should be sent. Here are a couple of things to consider when and even if you should send them out.

  • Is your wedding a destination wedding?
  • Does your wedding fall on a popular holiday weekend (i.e. Memorial Day)?
  • Are many of your guests from out of town?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you should send out save the dates. They need not be fancy or expensive, but they must include the following:

  • Full names of who is getting married
  • The date and location of the wedding

Some other things to consider on your save the date card include:

  • Places to stay (or dates by which guests need to book to get a wedding discount if this has been arranged)
  • Fun facts about the area, especially if it is a destination wedding (i.e. if you are getting married in Jackson Hole, what are the average temperatures for the time of year your wedding will take place, nearby attractions or fun activities)
  • Your wedding website which should give full details about accommodations, nearest airport, etc. Also consider including your engagement story, how you two met, and who is in your bridal party.
  • Nearest airport and/or driving directions

When to send your save the date cards

Your save the dates should be sent out about least six months in advance so guests have adequate time to prepare for travel arrangements, etc. If you don't have that much time, get them out as soon as possible.

Furthermore, if you answered no to the questions above, then you will be okay not sending save the dates, however, you will want to mail your wedding invitations 8 weeks in advance if you forgo the save the date cards.

Save the date cards that tie it all together

Before your save the date cards are chosen, it is a good idea to have your wedding colors selected and have a good idea of what you want your wedding invitation design to be. That way, you can match your save the date cards to the rest of your wedding correspondence. They don't have to match exactly, but it is nice to at least be consistent with both the theme of the design as well as the colors of your big day. With all of UrbanityStudios' save the date card designs, you can change the colors to match your event, FREE of charge. It makes selecting any design and changing it to match your day really easy. .
